IfyourinstrumenthastheEZ-Locksystem,thespindlesare
attachedasfollows:
Withonehandholdthespindle,whilegentlyraisingthespring-
loadedoutersleevetoitshighestpositionwiththeotherhand,
asshowninFigureIII-2.InserttheEZ-LockSpindleCoupling
sothatthebottomofthecouplingisushwiththebottomof
theshaft,andlowerthesleeve.Thesleeveshouldeasilyslide
backdowntoholdthespindle/couplingassemblyinplacefor
use.[Spindlescanbeidentiedbyentrycode;lookforthe
numberonthesideoftheEZ-Lockspindlecoupling.]
The motor should be OFF whenever
spindlesarebeingremovedorattached.
Note: KeeptheEZ-LockSpindleCouplingand
outer sleeve as clean as possible and free
from debris that could become lodged
insidetheadapter.
III.4 Multiple Data Points
Themajorityofviscosityandyieldstressmeasurementsaremadeatthequalitycontrol
levelandoftenconsistofasingledatapoint.Thetestisconductedwithonespindleatone
speed.Thedatapointisausefulbenchmarkforthego/no-godecisioninaproduction
setting.TheDV2Tcanbeusedforsinglepointmeasurement.
Manyuidsexhibitacharacteristicchangeinviscosityandyieldstresswithachangein
appliedforce.Thisnon-Newtonianowbehavioriscommonlyseeninpaints,coatingsand
foodproductsasadecreaseinviscosityasshearrateincreasesoranincreaseinyield
stressasarotationalspeedincreases.Thisbehaviorcannotbedetectedorevaluated
withthesinglepointmeasurement.
Non-Newtonianowisanalyzedthroughthecollectionofviscositydataoverarangeof
shearratesandthegenerationofagraphofviscosityversusshearrate(arheogram).
Thisinformationwillallowforamorecompletecharacterizationofauidandmayhelpin
formulationandproductionofaproduct.TheDV2Tiscapableofcollectingmultipledata
pointsforcomprehensiveanalysisofowbehaviorwhenusingtestprogramscreatedwith
PGFlashSoftware(seeSectionV).
